Taxi Experiences
I have taken a taxi a few times in Bremen, and it is a little different from what I am used to in the States. In recent years, I have gotten an Uber or a Lyft from an app on my phone. Here, however, Uber and Lyft do not exist. There is an app called myTaxi that is supposed to do the same thing, but I have not tried it. My first time with a taxi here was on the way to my apartment from the airport when I had just arrived here. I am just realizing that I have no memory of getting my luggage from the carousel at the airport that day, but I digress. I got my luggage and got into the taxi at the front of the line outside the airport. Thankfully, my taxi driver spoke English. He took me to my apartment at a cost of about 12 Euro. I also got a taxi to my apartment when my flight was very late getting back from London. That taxi driver did not speak English well, but I just showed him where I needed to go on Google Maps, and it was fine. He was not very good at direction, though so he took longer to get to my apartment than he should have and the cost was about 15 Euro. My most memorable taxi experience, though was after the international student party. It was late so I asked the bouncer to call a taxi for me. He did, and the taxi dispatcher said that someone would be there soon. I waited for about 15 minutes and when no one had shown up, I called the taxi company again. He said that someone would be there in 5 minutes. Ten minutes later, I called again. Apparently, I was in the wrong place to get picked up by a taxi. I told him where I was, and he said that someone would be there in five minutes. Ten minutes later, a taxi did show up. I showed him where I needed to go on Google Maps, and he took me there at a reasonable price. The taxi dispatcher was not exactly rude, but he was a little blunt. I have been able to get wherever I need to go with a taxi, but it has not always been as smooth as I would have liked.
